What is Irish Dancing?

Irish dancing comes from traditional Gaelic or Celtic dance forms that originated from pagan rituals in Ireland. The dance can be performed by solo dancers or as a Ceili (team/groups).

Today people from all over the world take part in the traditional Irish dance form from social dancing, to competitive dancing. Irish Dance has been made popular by touring shows such as Michael Flatley’s Riverdance and Lord of the Dance and in more recent years the lovely Emma Wiggle!

The most distinctive features of Irish dancing is the intricate footwork, strong upper body and lively music. Irish dancing is well known for the straight arms by the performer’s side, which works to accentuate the intricate steps of the dancer’s feet.

Ireland is known the world over for its lively dancing and music, and Irish dancing is a core component of Irish national identity. Irish dancing has a long and rich history which continues to develop over time.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support all of our dancers to explore their individual potential through Irish Dance. Dancers at the Eireann Academy are given the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of Irish Dancing while developing confidence, teamwork and building skills for the future.

We invite dancers as young as 18 months to begin their dance journey with us. We foster an encouraging and nurturing environment, which builds our dancers determination, focus and commitment; whilst still experiencing the pure sense of joy that Irish dancing provides. We take great joy in watching our young students blossom as they develop both their dancing and their personalities, all the while making lifelong friends.
