Eireann Academy Irish Dance - About Us

The Eireann Academy offers professional training for those wishing to master traditional Irish dancing. The Eireann Academy is run by mother and daughter team Ann Truman and Siobhán Rogers, who have decades of experience, and who explicitly teach their craft with a focus on a supportive and encouraging environment and building sense of community.

All teachers at the Éireann Academy are registered with An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (Irish Dancing Commission) in Dublin and the Australian Irish Dancing Association (AIDA) Inc.

The academy is interested in the development of both solo dancing and ceili dancing. Because of the dynamism of Irish dancing, we believe that both formats should be practiced to truly encapsulate the spirit of the dance.

In solo dancing the dancers are mentored to develop their skill at different levels of complexity, in both hard and soft shoes. Solo lessons provide an opportunity for in-depth development of Irish dancing technique, with a focus on footwork, deportment, rhythm, and improving dance strength and stamina.

Teams are an integral part of Irish dancing, and we develop our dancers to work and perform in a team-environment. Our dancers have the opportunity to learn traditional ‘ceili’ dances, as well as contemporary choreographies and performance skills.

At the Eireann Academy, we don’t just teach students dance, we also help to develop their sense of confidence, foster their determination, and teach focus and commitment, all while experiencing the joy of Irish Dance. It’s this dedication to a student’s overall wellbeing that makes the Eireann Academy feel like a community. We are always so proud to see all our dancers master a new step and show the world their skill and passion for Irish dancing. We take great joy in helping our young students to develop their confidence and to nurture their development, and offer them a warm environment to express themselves and make lifelong friends.

Our History

Éireann Academy, formally known as The Walker school of Irish Dance, was founded in 2001 by Carmel Walker TCRG, and the school has achieved great success regionally and nationally, in both solo and ceili dancing winning numerous State and National titles. This success has been achieved with many focused, talented and dedicated pupils and teachers. The teaching team now includes Mother and Daughter team Ann Truman and Siobhán Rogers.

We encourage our students to compete in local competitions as well as state, national and international championships. We are so proud to see all our dancers show the world their skill and passion for Irish dancing.
