Eireann Academy Irish Dance - Classes

Age Groups and Classes

The Eireann Academy’s classes are divided by age group and level. Our classes teach traditional Irish dancing technique, focusing on footwork, deportment, rhythm, and improving dance strength, stamina and teamwork. We take a personalised approach to our classes, mentoring each individual student based on their needs and skill level. It doesn’t matter if you’re a 2 year old Jump’n Jigger or a mature beginner, we work to get the best out of you to craft you into the best dancer you can be.

The environment of our classes is supportive and nurturing, and we understand how to get the most out of each individual student to ensure they reach not only their dancing goals but full potential. We believe that character building goes hand-in-hand with developing  your dance skill and each of our classes help students build skills which easily transfer to everyday life. We think of the Eireann Academy as a community, and provide our students with opportunities to grow lasting friendships and build their social skills as they share the joy of Irish dancing.

CLASSES

Jump’n Jig

Jump’n Jig has been designed to help preschoolers develop coordination, self-esteem and social skills through Irish dance, music and play. The program was developed by Fiona Holmes, a qualified teacher and adjudicator with the CLRG and also a qualified and registered school teacher. Classes provide pre-schoolers with the fundamental basics of Irish Dancing through the use of popular nursery rhymes, Irish music, the use of props, colour and plenty of fun. The program is divided into levels, to ensure classes can be modified for children of different ages and gross motor skills. The Jump’n Jig classes are divided into age ranges starting with Baby Jig for 18 months – 3 and Mini Jig 3-4. Please contact us for more Jump’n Jig information.

Beginner to Championship

Solo dancers are given the opportunity to develop their skills at different levels; Beginner, Primary, Intermediate and Open. Dancers learn the skill in both hard shoes and soft shoes. During solo classes students learn the technique of Irish dancing, in particular regard to footwork, deportment, rhythm, and the development of dance strength and stamina.  Students are always encouraged to maximise their dancing potential, and in turn develop a strong sense of confidence, determination, focus, commitment, whilst experiencing the joy of Irish Dance.  All of these key skills are easily transferred to outside of the dance studio and into everyday life. Students have the opportunity to take part in grade exams, displays and compete in local competitions as well as State, National and International Championships.

Ceili Dancing

Teams are an integral part of Irish dancing, and at the Éireann Academy we encourage all of our dancers to learn this aspect of the dance form. Students will learn traditional ‘ceili’ dances, as well as contemporary choreographies, and build performance skills. Students who wish to compete in competitions are required to take part in teams.

Céilí dances are a traditional and popular form of dancing originating in Ireland hundreds of years ago. Ceili dancing builds teamwork, spatial awareness and social connections as students learn from dancing with one another. Ceili dance also focuses on the basics of Irish Dancing. At the Eireann Academy we pride ourselves in Ceili dancing with various State and National Championship wins.
